CAN (Offshore) support Lloyds Register's 24 Peak Challenge

Climbing 24 peaks, all over 2,400ft, in just 24 hours is an impossible, physically and mentally demanding feat, yet every year determined teams tackle this ultimate challenge to raise money for charity. This year, a team of fitness enthusiasts from Lloyds Register accepted the 24 Peak Challenge to raise money in support of marine charity Seafarers UK.

Answering to the name of ‘Feeling Peaky’, the Lloyds Register team assembled at 3am to begin navigating across 10 peaks located in the UK affords. If this was not enough to contend with, the team had to endure rain and poor visibility as they encountered the initial peaks. Luckily the weather cleared in the afternoon and the Lloyds Register teams were faced with spectacular views of the Lake District.

The second stage of the challenge involved climbing the remaining 14 peaks in strong gusts of wind, which was physically and mentally draining for the team having barely slept after scaling the first 10 peaks.

‘Feeling Peaky’ finished the challenge in 27hrs 57mins, but out of the 14 teams that entered, Lloyds Register were one of only three teams that finished with a full team.

Team member Diane Allan commented on what was a memorable weekend: “I can honestly say that I couldn’t have made it through without the help and support of my team members. Team work really was the key to our success in completing the challenge. Although we didn’t finish the challenge within 24hrs, finishing with a full team was a great achievement”.

CAN (Offshore) donated £1,000 to the marine charity Sea Farers UK on behalf of Lloyds Register, and supplied the ‘Feeling Peaky’ team with warm clothing to protect them from the elements.
