CAN Riser Inspection Tool

CANs Riser Inspection Tool has obtained valuable results for our many offshore clients. This tool can be utilised to plug the ‘gap’ between Sub-Sea ROV Surveys and Topsides Inspection, allowing inspection of risers (including flexibles) and caissons in the splash zone (or underwater areas) bridges, piers, vessels and pipes - negating the need for ROV’s – this has generated significant cost savings for many major operators in the North Sea. We have continued to develop this tool with the addition of a deepwater extension (capable of deployment to -22 metres below waterline).

Applications include:
  • Internal leg & caisson Inspection
  • External inspection of flexible risers
  • Visual Surveys - record high quality video and accurately locate defects
  • Removal of marine growth without causing damage to coatings
  • Deployment with various NDT Techniques including:
  • Pulse Eddy Current inspection
  • Incotest
  • Flooded Member Detection
  • Ultrasonic

The CAN Riser Inspection Tools have a heavy duty but lightweight design, enabling easy manoeuvring and rigging underdecks and in awkward areas. They can be used in short weather windows and are compact, (collapse down to approximately 3.5 metres long) air-freightable and are contained and boxed for efficient shipment and easy component transfer to worksite.

We have utilised this tool extensively for a number of operators including BP, Chevron, CNR, ExxonMobil, Shell and Talisman Energy to clean and inspect their risers and caissons. The CAN Riser Tool is deployed and operated by a four man team of multi-disciplined inspectors who are able to inspect the risers and caissons quickly and efficiently by utilising rope access techniques. The quick disconnects on umbilicals gives fast, easy assembly with no fluid spillage and a biodegradable soluble hydraulic fluid is used.
