Safety First - RAD Transport Emergency Exercise

Ensuring both the safe use and transportation of radioactive materials is critical to delivering safe operations, and at CAN, it is important that our teams are ready to support emergency situations that might be occur affecting its personnel.

In support of this, CAN recently undertook a Radiation Transport Emergency Exercise to test its preparedness and readiness and invited PI Stuart Clark from Police Scotland’s Emergency Planning Department and Kirsty Fletcher and Gordon Douglas from Peterson Logistics - a key partner to CAN in the transport of RAD sources.

The exercise stimulated lots of discussion with a focus on initial response, ensuring Emergency Services received all necessary information with PI Stuart Clark providing a useful insight into the Emergency Services response and CAN and Peterson showcasing how they would respond and support

Following the exercise, some positive actions were instigated which will further support CAN’s preparedness to respond to such an emergency scenario.

Thank you to PI Stuart Clark, Kirsty Fletcher and Gordon Douglas for their valuable input and participation in a very important learning exercise.
